2025-02-21-1: 12V Charging Guidelines
Overview
This TSB describes
This TSB outlines recommended Ampere EV 12V charging procedures for both long term storage and dead battery scenarios. These procedures are intended to prevent scenarios for over-voltage and reverse polarity of the 12V system that may damage sensitive electronics within the EV system.
This is an update to
This TSB contains recommended practices pertaining to 12V system battery charging in order to prevent over voltage or reverse polarity situations.
This bulletin applies to
This TSB is applicable to all vehicles equipped with the Atom Drive System.
Instructions
Dead 12V Battery:
If the vehicle has a fully depleted 12V battery, indicated by voltage below 11.5V, the procedures below may be used to recharge the battery. DO NOT JUMP THE 12V SYSTEM! Doing so may cause harm to the electronic control modules of the vehicle.
Trickle Charge Procedure:
- Keep the vehicle ignition off. Do not have the vehicle's charging inlet connected to an EV charging station (Wall box, outlet, or commercial charging station).
- Connect a 2A trickle charger to the 12V battery.
- Allow the trickle charger to charge the vehicle for 30 min to 1 hour.
- Disconnect the charger from the vehicle.
- Proceed to turn on the vehicle.
Quick Charge Procedure:
- Keep the vehicle ignition off. Do not have the vehicle's charging inlet connected to an EV charging station (Wall box, outlet, or commercial charging station).
- Disconnect the 12V battery terminals from the 12V battery.
- Connect the battery charger to the 12V battery.
- Depending on the charge rate of the charger, charge the battery for 5 to 30 mins while keeping it disconnected from the vehicle.
- Disconnect the charger from the 12V battery.
- Reconnect the 12V terminals to the battery.
- Proceed to turn on the vehicle.
Long Term Storage Battery Maintenance:
Trickle Charge Procedure:
- Keep the vehicle ignition off.
- Connect a 2A trickle charger to the 12V battery.
Before starting the vehicle:
- Disconnect the charger from the vehicle.
- Proceed to turn on the vehicle.
